dunno what the M1 bit stands for but to me it seems that you are being taxed on the 'basic personal allowance' ie allowed to earn £6,035 before you pay tax0
-
603L M1 is an emergency code
if previous to this employment you earned nothing then you are being taxed too much.
did you fill a P46 when you started the job?0 -
M1 means is on month1/week1 basis, which is basicaly advising that the tax code is to "be revised". That you would get if you didn't bring P45 to work from your previous employer - which is your case as you obviously didn't have one. Once the employer sends your P46 to HMRC they send him new tax code which will make up for what you've lost on paying tax on emergency tax code.
MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE P46 FORM, IF YOU DIDN'T GET ONE ASK FOR IT!! It is very important.0 -
I filled in a form regarding tax i think =s! It was a very short form just needing to know my address, nin and asking if im fillin in this form after 7th september!

The 603M1 means you get your tax free allowanace for that month and that month only. It won't take into account any other earnings you may have had for the year. So you may end up over/under paid once the taxman confirms with your employer the right tax code for you.
AS Any suggests make sure you've completed the P46 and your employer has sent it off to the tax office0 -
Hello,
Please help me i am so confused.
I was working in full time till September last year. After that I left that job and started working for agencies. Some of them deducted tax, some of them did not.
1,5 month ago I started a part time job and today i got my payslip which says there is no deductions (no tax, no NI) and my tax code is 603LM1.
When i started i gave my P45 form to the accountant. Why i dont pay tax or ni number? Why am i on emergency tax code?Is it normal that i dont pay any tax?
Thank you for reply.0 -
603LM1 is not emergency tax in the sense most people use the term for!
sandra - this new job - when did you receive the first pay for this, was it before or after 6 April 2009 ?
How much are you receiving from this part time job per week/month? (this will determine whether you should be paying tax/ni or not)Indecision is the key to flexibility
