Whilst in the process of going BR, I had need to drive into London. This was a visit to a prospective customer for my new sales job.
Not realising that I had entered the CC area I received a fine. I was unable to pay this fine because every peny I had went into the BR. So I now find myself with a letter from the baliffs.
I thought that these days were over but now I am all stressed out again.
Anybody got any bright ideas?

Borrow the money to pay the fine or be prepared to go through the procedure0

You need to pay up. It cannot be included in your BR as the debt was incurred after your BR date so you have no choice but to pay it.
Can you go back to the people who issued the fine and pay them directly?? Thus avoiding the baliffs. To get to baliff stage you must have been through a lot of letters from the fine, the collection company, court, CCJ etc - so are you SURE you have a baliffs letter? Not just a DCA threatening them??
A DCA is easier to deal with. Just write to them with a sensible offer of payment, and then start to pay it until the debt is cleared. Keep paying even if they refuse the offer.0 -
thanks skylight,
I actually received the penalty before I was made BR. I couldn't pay the fine as I was saving every penny for the costs of BR. I have had several letters from the DCA, but not since I explained to them that I was about to be made BR.
I think that the letter is just a threatening letter, as there has certainly been no court action or ccj's etc.
Should I just tell my OR, he has been very helpfull in the past?0 -
In that case, yes, tell your OR and see what he has to say. He should be able to include it in BR (I hope, its not a court fine so should be ok). You can tell him that you were so stressed at the time you forgot all about it until this letter arrived.
You could also send a copy of your BR court notice to the DCA and tell them to contact your OR for further information and to be added to the creditors list.
Sorry - I read into your first post that you were BR when you went into London!0 -
Ah. Ok thanks Skylight. Will do that first thing Monday morning.0
