Hi
We're planning to buy a loft bed for our son and I've started looking around, Lkea, Argos etc.
But there are so many.
Has anyone got one they'd recommend or not recommend ?
Thanks

We bought my son who is now 10 a loft bed (metal) from Ikea - its been great but its very high - so not suitable for younger kids. Difficult to make bed as so high but my son took the responsibility of making it. Have just got my dad to lower it (by sawing off the legs/ladder) as my son kept hitting his head on the ceiling as he's grown so much. Its a perfect height now so pleased with value for money as it only cost £80 - I think its around £120 now. Advantage is its just the bed so you can adapt whatever you want to put under the bed as the years go by. Argos beds looked good too - good price and not worth paying a fortune as when the kids get older they'll probably want to have a lower bed again.0

Thanks leezuk1
The height of some of them is one thing that is concerning me.
Are there any advantages / disadvantages between the metal frame ones and the wooden ones ?
Thanks0 -
We have 2 Ikea Tromso loft beds, bought when kids were in their teens - they are still in use by them, as adults.
There is probably 5"6' or 7' underneath, so you need reasonably high ceilings to accommodate them. I reckon you have enough clearance as long as you can sit up straight in bed! Not sure what ceiling height you have, ours is a Victorian house and so has relatively high ones.
We have had wooden bunk beds in the past, but didn't like them. They got very creaky and there was a lot of movement where bits were screwed together. These were replaced with very tall Ikea metal bunk beds which were much more stable. After 10 years we handed them down to another family whose boys hated their wooden bunks - they are still going strong!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
We bought our daughter this one from ikea - she is six and has no problems climbing in or out. You can alter which end to place the ladder.0

I bought my 2 (age 7 & nearly 6) these in the summer after their rooms had been done

I was worried that they would be flimsy / kids fall out etc
but I have to say I am very impressed, good company, quick to deliver (bloody heavy boxes though)
once you get your head around the instructions, pretty ok to put together (about 8 hours it took me, and I needed someone for the final bit as My amrs and legs don't stretch in all directions at once :rotfl:
only problem is when son was sick.....I passed him a bucket up rather than let him be sick on each step, but maybe I'm a cruel mum
(also I have to stand on their desk chair at night when i go to bed to make sure they are covered as there is no way I am getting my butt up those ladders!);)0 -

would not recommend metal ones-my kids bang there head on bars (by accident!) and it really hurts.also i think metal bar ones ruin matresses-got through a couple before giving up and throwing out!:starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod:0

would recommend metal tubing ones over wooden..... they are sturdier that than the wooden onessmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I bought a second hand metal high sleeper with glo-in-the-dark steps off ebay for my daughter. It's got a double futon underneath which has come in extremely handy.
Consider buying second hand for the frame, I bought a new mattress. The one I bought was originally £400 new from Littlewoods, the seller's son refused to sleep in it. I took it off her hands for £70 and it's excellent.
I spent ages looking for one, including the ones from Argos and Tesco but they seemed to be permanently out of stock!0
