Newbie.. and needing help

Hi guys new to the board in need of help.. Going to sound like an utter noob. But theres so much info on here.

I got paid yesterday.. and I was off sick at work so i didnt get paid a lot at all Stat sick pay was awful. I dont get paid for being off work.

Anyways what i got paid isnt enough to cover my bills and i dont know what to do.

Just wondering.. Whats the quickest way to earn some cash now.. just little bits here and there??

Not got anything to really put on ebay as i do that now.

I have 2 credit card to pay off..
Car insurance
Gym
Loan (but i will have had another pay day by the time thats due)
Phone Bill

any advice would be great :) thanks

  • If you are recovered, could you look for some part-time work? Bar work, shop work, delivery work, anything?

Can you cancel the gym membership altogether? If your finances are so tight that one bad month puts you in the red, the gym looks like a bad bet overall. If you are normally decently covered, then ignore me! : )

There are sites like Quidco and survey sites that earn cashback, but you don't get them for a while - how long do you have to get the money together?

Also, look at your spending - can you cancel anything else? Sky TV, other memberships... if you want them back later, you might be able to take advantage of welcome discounts too.

Look at all your spending, and see if you can get cheaper deals elsewhere.

Go through your cupboards and see what you have, meal-planning to make sure you spend as little as possible on food.

You might find you could save a big chunk, so you need to earn less.

It might be worth calling your card providers and asking if you could make a lower than minimum payment for one month due to ill health, although try to avoid it. Notes on your account can come back and bite on the bum!

    Good luck x

  • well ive just spent all morning looking online for part time work etc. The thing is with my job i work different days each week so going to have to find somewhere fairly flexible. Not a lot going around here :(

I dont know if i can cancel the gym ive jsut joined.. Normally im okay with my finances etc.. but like you said this 1 month its going to get me into trouble. I always pay bills etc i can afford to.

I'm only 19, 20 on monday so i don't have sky or anything really.

As for work I get the bus and the money comes out my wages as I work 25 miles away.. But because i get paid monthly i dont know what to do i cant ask them for a sub or anything.

Need money asap.. got direct debits out my ears and none can be cancelled just normal things need paying for :S

  • :hello: Hi poppy the noob:laugh:

Pay your essential bills first, and phone the rest tell them you can't pay the full amount, and explain the situation most prefer that than just not paying and will probably accept payments over a few months

Why don't you put up your SOA, the great and the good here will help you find ways to save money

  • Can you have a quick rummage and sort out a load of stuff to take to do a car boot with tomorrow, friends/family might have stuff that they don't want too that you can take. You might not get a huge amount but at least it is cash in your hand that you might be able to sort one or two payments with.

There are a lot of things missing, so im taking a guess you still live with your parents, I think that all your surplus income goes to the missing amounts,no haircuts,no entertainment,no clothes
Have you thaught about keeping a spending diary? just write down everything you spend it is amazing how much the odd 20p for this 90p for that adds up, and get thatt under control and save it in an emergancy fund
