Venue needed in Scotland...

Options
Our wedding plans are currently just that - in the planning stages!!

We're going to be getting married next November near Falkirk. What we're looking for is a nice hotel which has a decent sized function room for afterwards, can provide buffet, has rooms which we can book several of for one or two nights and they'd be willing to offer a discount.

The wedding party are mainly from the North East of the UK but others will be travelling from further afield. So, the hotel needs to be south of Falkirk (or Falkirk itself) but not too far that we have to travel for ages to get to and from the wedding venue (Tamfourhill) to the hotel.

Nice is good, but unusual is better. I'm asking you, MSE, because I don't know of any hotels in that part of Scotland. I'm sure an internet search will bring up several, but I'd rather go on personal recommendation.

Thanks in advance...

  • Does it definitely need to be a hotel? I don't know Falkirk but you can have functions at the Falkirk Wheel. Actually, thinking about it, I went to a conference at the Inchyra Grange Hotel in Polmont, food was nice, as was hotel but nothing particularly unusual or quirky.

  • We're having our ceremony at the Falkirk Wheel, but we're not using it afterwards because it doesn't fit in with our plans and it's too expensive.
The hotel is a must for after the ceremony because I want the guests to be able to eat and drink, then fall into bed.

Try the Dunblane Hydro :- http://www.dunblanehydrohotel.com/index.htm

They advertise The Falkirk Wheel as being a short drive away, and it's a very very plush nice hotel and function facilities are excellent.

It's just off the A9, so has very good road connections.

  • There are several hotels close to Falkirk - The Macdonald Inchyra Grange is at Polmont. There's also Airth Castle, which is about 5 miles from Falkirk and is very nice. The Dunblane Hydro is a wee bit further away, as it is the other side of Stirling and around 30 minutes away.

Suppose it all depends on your budget too?
  • Have you thought about Glenbervie House Hotel? We're getting married there next year, and it's simply stunning. It's in Larbert, so pretty much ideal for you location wise. It's an exclusive use hire, although no hire fees, just minimum numbers. Twelve bedrooms, which obviously your guests can pay for if you cannot (this is what we're doing), and the option of reserving more at the sister hotel, Airth Castle.

I've been to weddings at Inchyra and there is nothing unusual or quirky, the food was lovely though. Airth castle is just beautiful, there are lots of different rooms you can hire
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

  • There's been a bit of a mess up with our plans. The Wheel are not forthcoming at all with the info I need, I'm getting no response at all to my queries.
My parents and sister are refusing to come because it's going to be in Scotland (approx 100 miles from home). So, we've shelved the getting married in Scotland idea and are going to try and find somewhere closer to home. I'm quite peeved, as it was the perfect venue, but these things happen :(
  • Sorry to read that, I'm sure you'll arrange a fantastic wedding wherever it ends up being, but must be annoying not getting info from the Wheel and upsetting when family won't travel that far.
