Hi guys
Ive been doing some voluntary work for a while, and nwo its looking like I'm going to have to do a bit more travelling for it. I've been offered travel expenses to cover my fuel - do I have to register this anywhere or pay tax??

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

As long as the charity reimburses only your actual travel costs against receipts, these are specifically exempt from Income Tax (as are reasonable costs of meals away from the office and associated training).£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

And as you ask about fuel, then the HMRC 40p/mile rate would be tax free (and if you were doing a great many miles then the reduced rate for the excess). For that you need to detail the journeys but not provide petrol receipts.0

Thanks for your help. I note you said charity - when i said voluntary i didn't mean to lead you into thinking this. I just used that term because what I am doing is not paid - it isnt for a charity.
