The cost of living over here has always been higher than the mainland, yet wages over here are lowest in UK, just doesn't add up to meThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I think it goes back to the "good old days" when you could get a house here for £25k and over in the mainland a starter home cost £80k - they presumed we all therefore had loads of spare cash to spend on treats and food But now houses here cost the highest in the UK and our wages are still the lowest - same old whinge and it will probably never change. Im just doing more home cooking and baking than Ive ever done in my life!Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T0

Has this ever been put to the test? Could we get someone to check the prices of a selection of items at branches of the various chains elsewhere in the UK.
The only example given here is Lidl which appears to price on an all-Ireland basis and as we should know by now consumers in the Republic probably get the worst deal in Europe.0 -
A lot of their products are considerably more expensive here than in GB e.g. their Special Muesli is around £1.49 in Manchester, yet £1.99 - a quite unacceptable price-hyke. Similarly, 1.5 litre pure apple juice is around 75p in Manchester, but well over £1 in NI. I came out of the shop again in disgust without buying anything this morning!0
