buying in swindon

I am looking for houses in the area of swindon (old town, lawn, lakeside etc) and not seen many houses sold in the last couple of months. But also not seen much price moves except for the tatty looking places.
What are peoples impressions of the new housing estate on the old trading estate in Okus, swindon - I have looked around a couple of houses - one from George Wimpey and one from Miller and like them both. But they are both quite expensive - 229,000 and 199,000 respectively. (town houses both with garages.) I put an offer on the Miller one at 145,000 because that what I thought it was worth - it was rejected as you can imagine!

the George wimpey has actually increase in price this week!!!!!
My ideal road is Avenue Road on the West side with the longer gardens and garage at back - but prices are not moving at all!

Marcus, you cannot force people to sell to you at your price, so I guess you should keep looking until prices become reasonable. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Personally I would wait, as you probably know the front garden is on hold, new developers are getting cold feet, Angel Ridge is built by some of the same developers that have bought land on the Front Garden, in a couple of months they will be offering big discounts to sell the properties before the end of their financial year ( December).
Good luck!0 -

Hi Marcus,
If you are not already aware buying a newbuild property might not be the best option. I bought a new home from george wimpey and have a list the length of my arm of problems and another list of examples of poor customer service:mad: .
If you do decide to buy a newbuild get a good survey(not a valuation report) and consider getting a professional snagging company to check the property for you. Also go to the homes of people who have purchased in the street you are considering buying from and ask how they got on, dont be shy your planning on spending a lot of money.
Good luck
Cheers,
