Ancestry free 14 day trial

I took advantage of the 14 day trial recently and now it as run out I could do with doing more searches although I'm not too keen on paying £80 for a year.

Is there anyway to get register again and take advantage of the trial? ie with a different email address or a different credit/Debit card? Or would it not work that way?

  • Hi. Check with your local library. I know that Staffordshire Libraries offer free access to Ancestry.com when using their computers. This is also the case with other areas. It is free to join the libraries and use their computers. HTH.

  • You can easily sign up for a new trial, just use an alternative email address and credit card.
  • I've just finished my third free trial (ahem). Third email address, same card details. I do feel rather guilty about it but obviously not that guilty!!

One problem with multiple trials is that if you have a tree on ancestry, then you can't attach information to it as the tree only works with one login id. Does that make sense?

I guess you could invite yourself to be a contributer, that way you could add stuff on. Now why did I not think of that before my subscription ran out last night?!!

The guilt free option is that you can get access to the full (worldwide) subscription through your library.
  • the best thing i ever did was become a full paying member to ancestry. i have got so far with my tree and made loads of friends along the way. i renew yearly.

  • I have just signed up for the 14 day free trial and half an hour later cancelled it!!!
I found this site absolutely useless.
I searched for all 8 members of my family (including myself) some of which are now deceased and it only managed to find one person!!
Not worth the effort of signing up...in my opinion.

I took the free trial and closed the account day before the 14 day trial was up and then when I came to check my bank statement found that they had charged me £83.40 for subscription. Phoned them up to complain and eventually they have reimbursed me the money back.

If anybody as taken up the trial offer just check your bank or credit card details to make sure they haven't charged you as well.

Don't forget to go through Quidco!
  • I find it better to use the Pay-as-you-go option. I was wasting an awful lot of money paying annually and then not having the time to spend on it.

I just use it for free in my local library when I want to search census records. I have joined genesreunited as that matches your tree and I have already found some relatives I didn't know about.

There's also a site called myheritage which lets you upload a tree and photos and then matches other members. It ties into a free family tree builder for the PC.
