  • NEVER USE COINSTAR- it hardly takes any time to count the money yourself. banks will give you free bags to put a quid of 1p's or a quid of 2p's into. and if you are paying into your account they can't refuse it!

  • There is a 'coinstar' machine at my local Asda's which lets you tip all change into it in exchange for a voucher which you then hand over at the information helpdesk for cash.

They take a 7.9% cut. But IMO it's worth it as unlike banks the money doesn't have to be bagged or be a set amount (requiring £1 worth in a bag).
Saving for a house deposit and associated costs:

    £7750/£30000 = 25.83%

Thanks I shall look into that. Do they take a cut?
Bank of England states all banks have to take in cash-ITS HOW THEY GET IT BAck!
Supermarkets take 7p in every pound so no its a rip off
BANKS ARE OBLIDGED TO TAKE CASHBAGS-YOU DO NOT -not need an account-a bank is a broker, they simply are a middle man.its thier JOB to domthis, the BOE pays them to return old/invalid coins-they are a bank not some silly financial services portfolio.YOU DO NOT NEED AN ACCOUNT-only reason thay ask for it is cos it makes them do some work!! they are lazy.ALL banks are obliged to take the money if its in cashbags-the correct weight & is english sterling.Simply shout MANAGERRRRRR when the tracey gets snotty in the bank & tell him the BOE website says you can exchange coins in ANY bank in england, scotland, wales & ireland.

Its quite simple if lloyds wont take your cashbags then you cant pay billss there!! banks are like animal farm -everyone is equal-but some are more equal than others.
NO to supermarket cash stealing machines, there is no need -everone can simply weigh a few bags up,takes 10 mins to bag up 50 quid in pennies.
YOU run the banks remember they are there to provide a service & one of those is the rendering & tending to the needs of theb public when it comes to sterling
THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE CASHBAGS -SIMPLE AS THAT:beer:
  • Most banks will not change coins unless you bank with them infact in most cases you have to pay coins into your account. Shouting for the manager doesnt make a difference they will say the same. The reason I know this is because I have worked for 3 different uk banks and still do and we have public notice up stating it is a service we provide for our customers. Yes banks do have to change coins but they dont have to give you the money there and then they send them off to the bank of england who will then pay money into your chosen account his takes up to 6weeks!!
