are there any sloes about this year?

    I live in northamptonshire lots and lots of sloes near me, in the same hedges there were lots of blackberrys in the summer hols. Have not tried making sloe gin although earlier in the year made some damson vodka with a box of damson that were lurking in the freezer scince last autum. Wish there were more damsons hiding there as it is wonderful.

    Plenty of sloes in Shropshire! Elderberries, cherries, plums and apples have been good too. There are usually lots of blackberries but I found them disappointing this year.

    Yep - plenty. I stupidly picked masses weeks ago and they were like bullets. I had forgotten that it is best to pick them after the first frost. Anyway, I looked again today on the towpath adjacent to the cottage and there are plenty. And this time they are bigger and softer and juicier so will be picking them this coming week. When you know where the bushes are it is easy but if you don't they can be quite hard to spot.
