sorry, never had slugs indoors Lou, is there a gap around the soil pipe or could it be a vent for the boiler or similar that they are getting in?

Yes BOB its for the same college but different department more my type of thing teaching accounting and financial based subjects as at the moment I am teaching basic IT.
