I usually feed my daughter for treats those expensive organic toddler biscuits made from grape juice instead of sugar. Can anyone suggest of any recipes so I can make similar at home? I would just try it but I am not the worlds best cook!!! Any help would really be appreciated

I make a nice oaty shortbread biscuit for my daughter it was from good food magazine and every one loves them.
275g oats, 100g plain flour 70g caster sugar, half tsp bicarb, 1tsp salt, 225g softened butter.
heat oven to 180C gas mark 4. Whizz oats in food processor until fine and then add the rest of the ingredients and whizz to make a dough - my blender won't do this so I mix the rest in by hand and it works fine!
roll out to 5mm thickness on a floured surface and cut into biscuit shapes. place on baking tray and cook for 15-20 mins til golden and slightly firm. Cool on a wire rack
These freeze really well and keep in a tin for days!
I like the fact that she is getting some goodness in the oats too.
One other suggestion - if you see a cake/biscuit recipe you like, just halve the amount of sugar. The recipe above is supposed to have 150g sugar but that makes them far too sweet!0 -
I used to make cheese biscuits and oatcakes for my LO's lunch - she was well into her 1st year before she needed something in between meals and even now it's rare so I can get away with the apple/pear/dried fruit/carrot thing.
Cheese biscuits were just 100g plain flour, 50g butter and 25g grated cheese. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingers then stir in the cheese and bring it together to a dough. I sometimes added sesame seeds or dried thyme/oregano too. Roll out and cut into circles. Cook on a non-stick baking tray at Gas Mark 4/180C for 10-15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
If you want to make sweet ones without sugar completely, why don't you try the recipe above, omitting the cheese. You could perhaps beat the butter with some grape/apple/orange juice and see if that works? Adding dried fruit and cinnamon would help a bit too.
Oatcakes I used to make in the same way but replace 25g of the flour with porridge oats (and omit the cheese, obviously.) Not quite traditional oatcakes but still tasty.Love and compassion to all x0
