Well I cannot and will not recommend a specific camcorder but what I do think is very important is that when you buy a DVD camcorder is to check that it does have a DV output. I bought a Sony DCR-DVD91E camcorder in the beginning of this year and it works great. You can watch your homemade movies quickly then on DVD. The problems comes in when you want to start mixing and editing your movies on a computer. I cannot do that yet because my camcorder does not have a DV output that can download the videos to my computer. And I bought an apple mac mini with all the software on it to edit movies and now i cannot use it. It is now going to be a someday project where everything has to be done by linux hacking.
I CAN STILL KICK MYSELF FOR NOT CHECKING FOR A DV OUTPUT!!!0 -
I've got the SonyDCR-DVD201E (not available anymore I understand) and I love it
You can download to your pc with mine and I guess an equivalent model would be the DCR-DVD202E or maybe the DCR-DVD203ESame old same old since 20080 -
I'm probably missing something here but can't you just copy the dvd onto the PC to do your editing by putting the disc into your PC's dvd drive?

I wouldnt touch a DVD camcorder the quality is alot lower than a Mini DV one as it has to be compressed alot and you only get 30 mins per DVD, also editing it very dificult as well due to the way its recorded, and the blank disks are expensive.
I would look into it a bit further if i was you before comitting yourself0 -
I've had a mini dv camcorder as well and I can't say i've noticed any difference in quality
As to the disks , i'm using dvd-rw so i could download to the pc and then re-use the disk again and again if I wanted toSame old same old since 20080 -
Im not an expert but did look into getting one myself and various places mentioned what i said above and put me off,0

I'm no expert , but having had a mini dv as well , it seems just as good to me and to husband as well
It's all a matter of opinion and taste though. I'd go along to somewhere like Dixons and have a look at both types firstSame old same old since 20080 -
All depends on what you want to do tho if its very difficult to edit then you wont be able to make your home movies0

True. Can't really comment on editing as although i've got the software to do it i've not got around to trying it. I should though as there are a few scenes I could do with editing out such as whe I filmed with the lens cap still on or forgot the camcorder was still on and filmed my feet:rotfl:

Yes, i should have bought the Sony DCR-DVD202E or maybe the DCR-DVD203E instead of the thing I got for myself, but I didn't. The Sony camcorders does work great and mine does the job perfect. Its just the DV OUTPUT that is missing. So make sure its got ONE.
And the reason why I cannot edit my DVD's it is because it uses 8cm DVD disks and the apple mac mini doesn't take it or it does but you'd have to open the mac mini to get it out again. So no editing for me on an apple box....0
