Boys trousers - little legs, generous waist.

My son is 10 and has a problem that he finds trousers for 10 year olds a bit too tight. Most of his trousers are jogging bottoms for 12/13 year olds, which fit at the waist but bunch up around his ankles!

This September he'll be moving up to the Senior School, and he won't be able to wear his usual joggers there. Can anyone suggest a place to get a range of school AND casual trousers with a generous waist bust shorter legs?

It is amazing that clothes manufacturers think that all children have the same leg to waist ratio.

My eldest son was always a bit larger round the waist than sold in most shops, M&S do elasticated waists up to an older age than other shops, but they don't go into different waist/leg sizes until about size aged 15 or 16.

My youngest son has the opposite problem. He is tall and skinny (I never thought I would ever see that as a problem) I have to get a bigger age for his leg length, and he has to tuck his shirt into the elasticated waistband so his school trousers don't fall down!

You might need to get a larger size, and get the legs of the trousers altered.

Have you checked out tesco as I have got some trousers for my two year old that came with an expandable waist. It's one of the buttons on the elastic a bit like some of the maternity clothes you get.

  • Asda do some men's trousers that start at 30 or 32 waist and come in diffferent lengths. I have bought them for years and they are only £7 so you dont mind if they grow out of them quickly. Lucky you though I have the other problem my son is 6 foot 3 but with very long legs and they think that if you are taller then you are bigger! Have had great success with the trousers from Asda so far for him. Good Luck!

    .

My youngest son isn't tall, however he is very skinny,no waist or hips (certainly doesn't get it from me!). He's nearly 12, however I have to buy 8- 9 trousers. Trouble is as he is getting taller, he isn't getting much fatter!! So the trousers get too short, but then the next size are too large round the waist.

School trousers are not too bad as they are more fitted and with a belt seem to manage.

Because he is skinny, none of the skateboarder style/baggy styles fit him as they look like they are falling off him...........I dread having to buy trousers, especially casual ones...nightmare!

  • Gap do a number of their items in Husky fit which have a wider waist and leg fitting. They also have adjustable elastic waists in many of their trousers. They also do a range of slim fit clothing if you have the opposite problem.
