Combi Microwave or ordinary electric Oven

my combi microwave blew uplast week so I need a new one,
which is cheapest to run and most enviromently friendly?
is it worth getting a combi microwave for things like baked spuds or using an ordinary oven. I would have thought heating the smaller space would be better but microwaves seem to consume a lot of energy

A massive thumbs up from me!
I purchased a Sharp R959SLM combi microwave and have not used my standard oven since.
Jacket spuds are done in half the time as you can set the microwave to cook them using microwave power and convection heating. It not only cuts time and energy costs, but the spuds are superb! The grill function in these combie ovens are also very good. You can use both the grill and the microwave together also, producing perfect results, again in half the time.
The model above has some very good reviews and, if you have a large family, has a large capacity.
The first combie I bought was from Aldi, a bargain at £69, but lasted only one month, however, I was so impressed with the ease of use and the results, I decided I'd shop around for a good quality model.
I would recommend a little research. Read some of the free review-sites out there to get some ideas. Amazon is a good place to start as many of their products have a number of reviews from people who have purchased the product.
Good luck.

Definitely a Combi. Ours heats up about 10 times faster than our standard oven and we hardly ever use the standard one now anyway.
Ours is a Panasonic - BUT the microwave has gone again ( Magneto I think ). we had it replaced a while ago whilst it was under warranty but is has now packed up again. A collegue at work has also had this problem with Panasonics.
It may also be worth trying to get a fan assisted one - the heat circulation is a lot better.
Will be getting a replacement for ours soon.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
Which would be cheaper to run my gas oven or my panasonic combi oven (when I use it just as an oven)? Thanks in advance0

If they are both powered by electricity the microwave would be cheaper if only because it has a smaller volume to heat.
We have both and the combi microwave gets used the most.
More convenient and we think cheaper to run.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
When I had an electric oven the savings were obvious. Now I have a gas oven I'm not sure. Does anyone know how to work it out (roughly)? Thanks.0
