As some of you know I am a recent bankruptcy case! Well when someone goes bankrupt they are on a NT tax code, so they pay no tax for a certain amount of time set by the official receiver(OR). Well...
When I spoke to him about this at the beginning, I asked him to sort this excess money I would have in my wages out, so I didnt spend it. He said he would do. Well....
I am now no longer in work and I got a letter from the OR askin for £360 re the NT code period. I told him my situation, expecting them to let me pay it off in small amounts, well.....
She only told me to forget about it! I said "Pardon, you mean forget about it" and she said yes, I was to receive no more letters and there was nothing the OR could do....
Just like that!!! Can you believe it, I feel I've won the lottery or something :T

I think that is shocking!
You knew the money wasn't yours, yet you spent it anyway and now you get rewarded by the tax man telling you to forget about it.
It's not fair on the tax payers who are unable to forget about their tax and have to pay it.Here I go again on my own....0 -
The guy is unemployed and had to go bankrupt, since I don’t know his credit background and the reason he filed for bankruptcy I fell the IR writing off the debt was probably the best option.0

I read that post as the OR writing it off, not the tax man. Also, that the OP had a job when going bankrupt and asked to pay the difference in tax codes back, but now they are unemployed they don't have it and were prepared to pay it over time. A bit different from just blowing it.
