I have an unresolved complaint with my mortgage company and wish to take it further. Is there an obudsman I can contact? Or can I get in touch with the FSA?

Depends on the mortgage type. Certain types of mortgage do not have consumer protection under the FOS. If yours does, then you can complain to the FOS within 6 months of being told you can by the lender. You cannot go to the FOS whilst the complaint is still in process with the lender as you have to give them a chance to resolve it first.
Once the lender has made their decision they will send you a booklet on the FOS on what you can do next if you disagree with the outcome. This is sometimes referred to as a deadlock letter.
The FSA do not handle complaints at consumer level. They are the regulator. Any letter you send to them about a complaint will be sent on to the lender to be handled under the lenders complaint process.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). A word of warning: the FOS has a huge backlog and takes ages to deal with complaints. I had to submit a complaint to them last year. The FOS had still not got to my file six months after I had submitted my complaint, by which time I had finally resolved the issue.0
