Childs Play baby signing books are lovely, they do ones linked to the popular nursery rhymes. My DD still loves them and she is 3.5yrs.

Our friends little boy & 2 of my neice's turnt 1 this year, we bought each of them a JellyCat teddy. They are not expensive, but they are made from a lovely fabric. We had wonderful thankyou cards back from the parents and every time we see the children they have their Jallycats in tow. They come in various shapes, sizes and clours, but when you are looking i suggest you rub them against your face (sounds odd i know) but this is what the children will do, and if its soft and hugable, they will never put it down!
