I find this wattage more than sufficient for lamps. I prefer a 100W for a main light too though.

Liked yours - changing tack slightly and not wanting to change thread but continuing with dogs and not light bulbs .... just for a laff - (and a bit cheeky so hope does does not offend anybody):
