don't forget you can convert your tesco clubcard vouchers to 'double up' the value to use on your wine, which makes it even better saving

  • Don't know if it applies to this specific offer or not but this point made in a recent article is worth noting:

    "Beware false promotions
Feel lost among the supermarket offers and big brands? Lost for words in the local merchants? Victoria Moore has some top tips to help boost your buying power"

"If there is one point to be made to all those I have observed, many of whom are so mesmerised by wine mountains of discounted bottles that they never make it into the wine section proper, it is this: beware false promotions. How will you know them? Often by the apparent generosity of the saving. Bottles of wines sold at half price are frequently worth exactly that - half the normal price".

  • The vast majority of wines on this list are "half price" for most of the year.

I think that MSE should be campaigning against this kind of false promotion and not advertising it in their email.
  • Agreed, many of these seem to be permanently half-price. There are some however that are genuine. If you know what you like it's quite possible to stock up in the fairly short period when they are on offer. Avoid the ones that are almost always reduced!
Apart from wine, Tesco seem very "good" at saying things are half price when they still cost about the same as from other supermarkets who aren't claiming any reduction.
  • I've had around two thirds of all of these listed wines from Tesco wine club and I know that I've paid less than these listed prices.

Most of them are on a steady cycle of discount for about two months, then full price for a matter of days.

Dubious techniques again by Tesco. Do they really think they are kidding most of us? (don't answer that).

yes, I agree and I'm surprised that Martin seems to have fallen for this (especially as he's put it in the email as some big deal :p ).

Tesco using the oldest trick in the book again, something they do with scary regularity. It's about time some authority or organisation brought these con merchants to book - although as it's the Almighty Tesco, I doubt anybody has the nerve or the power
  • I am so enraged by this. I thought this site was about MONEYSAVING and not filling the pockets of Tesco. Fair enough some of the offers are at best OK but to be advertising for such a moneygrabbing company gets my back up. This site says it's free of advertising!!!!!!!!!!!! Sir Terry "The Robert Mugabe of Retail" (Leahy) will be laughing all the way to his next multi million pound bonus.

You used to get some real bargains from Tesco wine club but not so much these days so i stopped using them. I see little point if i can buy at similar pices locally.

Quite agree with you there. Stopped using them since they stopped doing any decent extra points vouchers.
Going back a few years they even used to sell Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc at less than a tenner a bottle. I use various other places now including M&S.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.
  • Dispatches on Channel 4 tonight (Monday 15th) at 8pm mainly investigates additives in wine, but according to BBC Radio 5 it will also cover the 'false bargains' on wine by supermarkets where they sell a bottle of wine worth only £3.99 for £7.99 for a few days (to stay within the letter of the law) and then 'reduce' it to half price.
