Finally did it!

I finally plucked up the courage to phone up CCCS last night and began the process of entering into my DMP. They were friendly and helpful and made me feel at ease and werent judgemental at all.

The first thing I have to do as recommended by CCCS is get myself a new basic bank account, as my credit card and bank account are with the same bank currently. Does anyone have any advice on the best bank to go to to set up a basic bank account?

The hard work starts here and I have only managed to start the ball rolling because of all the help and advice by many people on this website. So thanks to everyone who has helped me so far. I'm sure I'll need more help along the way but I know I can rely on the people on here for that.

well done! the best basic bank account is one not linked to your debts. Eg: my debts are with the coop and sainsbury's so I opened a Step account with Nat West.

I can't believe how relieved I felt when I had rung the CCCS. Good luck in your quest to be debt free. we'll all get there together! :j

    Well done, Moustacheman! :)

Don't ever feel shy about calling CCCS - no matter how bad things appear, they'll always make you feel better!

To echo Rbelcham's post, make sure your new basic bank a/c is totally unconnected to any of your debts; otherwise you'll just be re-creating the problem you've currently got. This list should help you:-

  • Well done, it will be tough at times, but once its over, you will feel sooo much better.

As for bank accounts, after I went bankrupt, Barclays were the only one to offer me a basic account.

    Good luck
  • Well done Moustacheman! You can really see from these boards that the CCCS are very helpful and most importantly, don't judge people.
