i wouldn't risk it either. i'm so nervous of kidney beans i always used canned ones.Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

Every reference I've found so far refers to the consumption of the actual beans, not what it was cooked in. I can't find anything to suggest the mince would be contaminated. Nor can I find anything to suggest it won't.
Where's Ted_Hutchinson? It's the sort of thing he'd know. :whistle:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

From what I have been reading you could take the lot out of the slow cooker and make sure you heat it to boiling point for 10 minutes.0

thanks to you all!
i picked out every bean and rinsed them, then boiled them for 30 mins. I then put them back in the chili, which has now been bubbling away for a few hours. I'm going to take the very sensible advice given and try a small bit, then see how it goes! will let you know how it goes...

I just think that if a food has been "in" with something poisonous, then best to not eat. But then again, in my job its probably a very good idea I think like that - don't think customers would be too happy otherwise

Having had a chat to my sister ( a dietician) I personally wouldn't eat it anyway... although the risks are very low, they are not 0%.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Hmm, tricky one:think: I think I would err on the side of caution & boil the mince hard once out of the SC. And re-add the beans once they have had their detoxifying boil! [STRIKE]And then test on a passing child/OH/dog/cat[/STRIKE]

I agree with you. Last time I bought some from Lidl they cost just 14p and saved so much time and hassle. I would imagine supermarket own brands would be a comparable price.
Amazing how something that is so good for you could also be so bad for you!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
