Equita Balliffs - Can they do this?

I owe £53 to Equita for a parking ticket that I failed to pay - which was passed to them and shot up to about £150. Anyway, I rung them and they are now saying there are 'fees' on top of this, and its going to be about £350!! I haven't had a visit from them, had a couple of letters but can they just add fees for nothing at all?

I rung Equita direct and they wouldn't discuss the matter, just kept giving me the mobile number of their roaming balliff. It all seems like a scam to me!

  • thanks for this, what what are the time out decs? I do owe them the money and they could call at my door any minute to clamp my car (in theory). But what the hell are they charging me extra for!
  • From this site it says they can charge for visiting your house? Some bailiffs are less than economical with the truth too say the least.

  • will see if anyone comes back with owt. I know they have a number of fees for attendance, securing your vehicle etc. None of this has happened though - just a letter and then me ringing them!
  • The best way to sort this is to post on the forum I have suggested as they can tell you exactly what to do how to get bailiff action suspended and get the ticket reverted back to the original sum.

I would advise that you be slightly more proactive.

  • Equita uses Bailiffs rights as physcological power to grab more illegal money from customers .There is nothing ,unfortunately, any laid down charge-fees by parliamentery law. I owed £1040 to Newcastle Council. Bailiffs took over the charge. i paid since august £655 but still owed to them £670 pounds as they claim.
There is no law and regulations on this. All MP's know these and ignorant about it.
We are in the new times in UK . there is no law and justice anymore. You can not trust councils, police,Banks,Inland revenues,Employers. Best to run from this country somehere there ıs peace!!!
  • Hi, this is my first post on MSE. My car parking fine recently went to Northampton Court and a £93 charge was applied and managed by Equita certified bailiffs. I first contacted them in August this year and agreed to pay 3 monthly instalments of £30 until the debt was cleared. I paid the first on time in september but then totally forgot about the fine until i had a bailiff post a letter on 15/11/2010 demanding i contact him within 24 hours or he would have no alternative but to reattend my property and impound my car/remove goods. Later the same day i had via post a letter from Equita head office telling me to contact them ASAP before they arranged a bailiff visit which would incur more costs. I phoned Equita who told me my only dealings were to be with the bailiff and the letter was computer generated and meant nothing. I then phoned the bailiff who informed me i now owed £320 minus the original £31 i paid in september. I told him there was no way i could afford this and he said he would have no option but to return to my home. I mentioned had the letter direct from Equita arrived before his visit I would have dealt with and paid up there and then but he said it is too late. Please help, can they really charge £260 for a debt of just over £60, this is obviously their charges, can they rip me off like that?thanks.
