Tooth sensitive to heat

Options
Thats not good is it? Ive had a lot of dental work in the past and from what I can recall having teeth sensitive to heat is very bad.

Ive had a toothache since saturday evening...managed to get an emergency appointment for Wed. The trouble is it appears to be hurting a top tooth, a bottom tooth, jaw and my eye!
Would this be due to an infection? Dont think I have an abcess because there is no swelling as yet. Ive found some co codamol in the cupboard which are making me feel nice and relaxed but the pain is still there.

Im a private patient too...so the dentist is gonna make a killing out of me tomorrow.

If you're a private patient, and Wednesday is the first emergency appointment you can get, then it's not really a private service you're getting!

I assume you rang on Monday morning?

Sensitive to hot but not cold is often the sign of an irreversible pulpitis. This means the nerve of the tooth is dying, but most likely not infected yet.

The clue is in the 'irreversible' bit though. I would guess that the tooth would need a root filling in order to save it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Thanks for that.

I didnt phone the dentist until Tues and was given an appointment for wed. I had an appointment booked for the following week to have a filling down then and was stupidly hoping I could make it till then. But no.

Anyway Ive been to the dentist and am now minus a tooth and £77.

If I was you I'd try the Doctor's first as it sounds to me like sinusitis, although it's unlikely that they will give you anything for it.

Have you had a cold recently?

I suffer quite regularly from sinusitis and it feels like toothache in your top and bottom teeth and also I felt tender around my cheek and eye, only on the one side though, the best thing I found to treat it was to use menthol crystals or vicks in hot water and stick your head under a towel as the steam drains the bacteria from your sinuses, also sudafed is good to take.

Dentists are perfectly well trained to diagnose sinusitis - it is a common cause of tooth pain.

Doctors - on the other hand - are absolutely hopeless at diagnosing any dental problems.
