Teletech help please?

Hi, I am applying to work from home with Teletech, and have just done the computer assessment test, but I got an email saying that my PC had failed because it didn't have a router (?) I am with Virgin media, and my PC has 512 MB memory. Do I need to purchase a router if so, can anyone recommend one? Sorry to sound a bit of a twit, but I am pretty new to this, and I really need to be able to work from home. Thanks

How does your PC currently connect to the internet? it would either be thru a USB connection or a ethernet connection. If USB, this is not supported but if your Virgin modem has a Ethernet (RJ45) socket, which I beleive most of them do, then get an ethernet cable and use that instead.
  • Hi, its already connected via the ethernet cable

Strange, I thought that the ethernet cable stright into the Virgin modem would work. A router should only be needed if serving more than one PC.
The tech support at Teletech is very good and if all else fails they will send you a usb to ethernet adapter.

If a router is absolutely essential, then just buy a cheap cable router, I think they start from about £20.

    Yes a router IS essential.

  • I am feeling a bit down now as I just had an interview with Teletech and after answering all the questions on what my work history was (I have extensive office experience) why I wanted to work from home etc, etc, she said that I had failed the computer skills test and that I wouldn't be offered the job. Its such a shame as I have a condition that prevents me from going out to work, and working from home would have been ideal, I'm not lazy, i want to work, but I am limited to what I can do, and this would have suited me down to the ground. I am really cheesed off now, my Incapacity Benefit got stopped about 8 weeks ago (due to the Atos examiner writing down the wrong information) andI am currently appealing against the decision, so I decide to try and get work (that I am able to do) and I fail yet again. I am not at a total loss, I can't go out to work due to my condition yet I can't get work to do from home either. Has anyone else been turned down by teletech, reapplied and been successful second time around?

  • I can't advise you regarding Teletech because I know nothing about them - but I am sorry you've had this setback. Try not to let it get you down too much (I know, stupid thing to say!). I've had disappointments like that before and it usually takes me a little while to pick myself up again.

Have you thought about doing some mystery shopping? I know you don't want to go out of the house, but there are some mystery shopping assignments that are telephone based. I've only been doing this a few weeks so I'm probably not the best one to advise here, but I've managed to find a few telephone jobs to do and although it doesn't pay a great deal, it's better than nothing.

    Good luck.
