Bursery consideration for a remortgage

Hi All

I have a question , yesterday i was talking to HSBC about a remortgage and it appears they no longer take into consideration a students bursary when considering a re- mortgage. This is bad for me, my partner currently receives £6500 as a student nurse, approx £550 per month. We have the letter guaranteeing this for the next 12 months, she is a student nurse starting her last year.

Hsbc did refer us to the local branch who apparently have more say in these matters, we have a meeting booked

Does anyone know if this is the case with most lenders at this current time?

thanks

  • Oh dear. We had also been told that HSBC were one of the very few mortgage providers to consider studentships and were hoping to go with them for our mortgage which we'll get at some point in the next 3 years while I'm on my funded PhD.
I'm sorry I have no help for you but would be really grateful if you could update the thread after your meeting?

I guess it isn't entirely surprising in this current climate; however to be honest at the moment I would think a student is just as likely to stay "studenting" as an employed person is to stay employed. Plus students' earnings generally go up once they graduate, and finally studentships are go up every year with inflation better than most people's salaries do at the moment!!
