Gas is cheaper than electric.
If you think about it, the flames you see thru the port hole of the gas boiler, can, with the help of a pump, heat your whole house.
The same flames in a gas fire just heats one room, with some of the heat going up the chimney.
You need seperate valves on the rads, called TVR. Switch off all but the rads you use.
Gas is deffinatly not chear than electric. Well this is the case in our house anyway. The house is victorian with no cavity wall insulation, wooden floor boards and no sound proofing/ insulation between the ground and first floor. The gas bill is crazy compared to the electric. We use Halogen 1200w heater sometimes (not the best option). I would weigh up the type of house and insulation you have and if it's good then Gas would be a better option I think.0 -

No being funny mate! but I know how much I pay and it works out more
What has that got to do with electricity being cheaper than gas?
Electricity cost between 10p and 12p for a kWh.
Gas costs between 3p and 3.5p for a kWh
You have to take the efficiency of a gas boiler into account when calculating costs. That can range from 60% to 90%, so taking 75% as an average, that prices gas at approx 4p to 4.5p for a kWh.
So electricity is between 2 and 3 times more expensive than gas.0
