dnt know if you can really see it properly but the red mark on jess's face is a burn mark from having ketchup on her face, was litraly 2mins while i got the baby wipes outta the box.wiped it off and her face was like that all burnt and red hot! had to put a full sachet of burn gel on it outta the first aid box on her face to get it to colla dn stop it blisteringplease someone tell me its not gonna scar her pretty little face.
Now ive reported it to iceland where i got the soddin ketchup from but dnt know what else to do??
Hunni, my daughter used to have reactions like that if she ate certain fruit, terrified the life out of me first time she ate strawberries and her little face went swollen, seemed to be more acidic fruits that caused it.
Needless to say we sought medical attention  but luckily she out grew it. Some kiddies have more sensitive skin than others do.
Thinks.... actually she might not have outgrown it but since going to secondary school she has become a definite (fruit and) salad dodger so maybe the question hasn't arisen! I keep thinking her diet of cheese, chocolate and chips (although being admirable for pmt moments :rotfl: ) is gonna have an effect one day....
Hope your LO doesn't suffer any further ill-effects hun x

ventured out to coventry today...was told in the precinct (i think it was that one) store that they were not accepting the mitchum vouchers! I was also told that I couldn't use my facial TS against 3 satchets of sanctuary mask things. I really don't understand why each boots makes up its own rules!
<snipped>
Oh no, I feel bad now, it was me that told you that The Precinct accept the mitchum vouchers. But, they did with meOnly downstairs though. Did you go to the tills downstairs, as I advised?
Plus, I've had a few of the sanctury masks x 3 from there with no problem at all
You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

now how in hell do i complain to that ?
iceland got a very nice email i can tell ya!
I know it's a horrid thing to happen, and would definitely let Iceland know it has happened but I agree with others that it's unlikely to be anyone's fault- just a very unfortunate reaction your LO has had to an ingredient of a manufactured product. Did any other family members have any? Were they affected? Be careful next time LO has ketchup of any kind just to ensure she's not developed an intolerance to something in it (bizarrely tomatoes in various forms are a relatively common thing to be allergic to).:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

hope your daughter is ok

My son also used to be like this with tomato sauce, cherry tomatoes, anything with a wiff of tomato in it. He is now 3 and it doesn't affect him anymore. I just put it down to "one of those things".
Hope it has faded by the morning though.0 -
ymc...I suspect it will fade in the morning, my DS gets a rash from all sorts of things containing acid, like when he spills fruit juice etc, it looks like I've poured a kettle of water down his chest! Ketchup contains the acid from the tomatoes, plus vinegar. I should imagine that ANY brand of ketchup would cause the same reaction to her skin and that there is nothing wrong with the ketchup itself.
Have you got any lotion in with chamomile or the tea(make up and apply with cotton wool) as it really soothes skin and it not to harsh for the face.0 -
can i be cheeky and ask if anyone has any of the no7 moisture gloves to swap i need 3 pairs for hampers
i will do my best to find you something
thank you x0 -

Don't worry, it won't scar. It's a topical reaction to one of the ingredients in the ketchup. Burn gel wouldn't have been any use as it's not a burn...plain warm water sponged lavishly over the area would have worked better in getting the ketchup off , actually. Baby wipes are fine for a lot of things, but it's hard to beat plain water.
I would just keep the ketchup well away from her, and be careful with other tomato based sauces too. Plus have a word about it to your Health Visitor...if your DD starts getting reactions like this to other foodstuffs then it would be worth getting her patch tested for the common intolerances, just so you know what to avoid. Kids do tend to grow out of this sort of thing though, so don't think she's going to have to avoid ketchup for the rest of her life!Val.0 -

But she actually smeared it on her cheek, so this is not an inwards allergic reaction it is from direct contact with the acids...has she smeared that quantity directly on her face for that length of time before
Not to sure I'd want to use burn gel on her face...I'm sure that is just as likely to cause a reaction if she is sensitive! I'd stick with water and if she needs something to 'make it better' pop a bit of non fragranced cream on0
