Mis-sold 'Red Letter Day'

Hi,

A couple of years ago my partner bought me a 'Rally Day' with Red Letter Days.

We booked up the day, and all was fine, until I received a letter saying something along the lines of 'we've gone bust, but the new owner will honour your agreement'.

So, I phoned their (premium rate) number and rearranged - sadly though, the venue that we had booked was no longer available with the new owners and the chap on the phone told me that the next nearest one was 'not that much further'.

Well, the 'new' day has arrived (next Saturday) and last weekend I went to Multimap to print off the directions and found that 'not much further' is in fact, a 320 mile round trip.

I phoned them to see if anything could be done, and they just said 'you should have checked earlier'.

There is some truth in that I suppose, but I don't usually arrange a trip nearly a year in advance (the new booking was 11 months ago).

Now they are saying that it's too late to change and too late for a refund.

Is there anything I can do? I believe that if their telephone adviser had informed me correctly, then I would have asked for a refund there and then, therefore, I think I have been missold the voucher.

I know it's not want you want to hear, but as they have told you, you really should have checked a lot sooner than this. Didn't it enter your head to check where exactly the event was to be held after learning the original place wasn't available?

Go & enjoy your day & don't let this spoil it for you. After all, you've waited 2 years for it.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

It did enter my head, and I asked the chap on the phone, as understanderbly I wasn't at a computer and didn't have a map in my hand. He told me that it wasn't much further and I had no reason to dis-believe him.
  • Sorry to sound harsh, but how far away was the original venue?
