after applying and being accepted for a credit card with capital one i have accessed my online credit report with equifax and im shocked at the information they have one me.
everysing credit account bar one is green with no defaults etc
halifax however my basic account i cannot get rid of shows and arrangement to pay in 2004 and a missed payment in 2006 but i dont have any credit with them as they will not give me any.
the only other thing that is not showing is me being on the electoral role
would this be i have good credit?
also would this ap and 1 missed payment on my basic account be preventing me get credit ?

As the negatives on your file are so old (and i doubt anyone would be worried about 1 late payment in 6 years), they should not have much impact on your credit worthiness.
Not being on the electoral roll however does have a big impact.
Have you checked that the address they have is correct? I would contact them and ask why the electoral roll information isn't there if you are on the electoral roll. If you aren't on it then i would advise to do so.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hi Robpw,
I recently got access to my Experian credit file online and found that, although I am on the electoral role, they couldn't show that without all my loans and CC accounts "disappearing"! (wish that was real!:D ). The local council had entered my address in a weird format which was incompatible with the other details. They tried 3 or 4 times to fix it and in the end I chose to view my credit accounts instead of the electoral roll info - (as I am now on a DMP, I don't care too much at the moment as I'm not interested in applying for credit:o ).
It does make me wonder how accurate the credit checks can be. I also noticed there was no info about either of 2 accounts I have with M&S shown. I phoned Experian to ask about them and they couldn't find any details at all, even against every previous address they have for me! As a result, my Experian file is completely misleading - shows less than actual debtbut that I'm not on electoral roll
Sorry to ramble on, what I'm trying to say is that it is worth contacting Equifax/Experian if you find errors / missing info on your file, as not being on the electoral roll is a big negative and will affect your credit rating. You could also ask your local council if they can confirm the exact address details they have, or send a recent polling card to the credit reference agency as evidence that you are on the ER.
