Cancelling Sky - sharp practice

Options
Sorry if this is the wrong board to post this - couldnt see a dedicated tv forum..

I cancelled Sky 6 weeks ago, waited out the notice period and thought that was that..

Just received a statement from them today with a monthly charge for Sky+ functionality. (£10)

They were quick enough to apologize and offer to refund, but wonder if this is common?

  • Hi not sure if this is correct place for this post apologies if it is wrong this is first time ever posting anything (other than a red pillar box).

Anyway have just phoned Sky to cancel TV subscription after nearly 21 years with them on full package. The gentleman advised it would end 18/10/08 (fine), last payment will be £47 on 29/09/08 now the problems start. I asked if payments were in advance or arrears and discover they are made in advance so when I point out that we will have overpaid was advised that we might use box office (we haven't in about 8 years but understood what he was saying) so then asked about the refund and have been told will only get refund of approx £12 if I actually ring up after 18/10/08 and ask for it. This doesn't sound legal to me so asked to speak to supervisor and surprise surprise was then cut off after nearly 30mins on phone. Any advice greatly appreciated. Am I better cancelling direct debit now and waiting for letter asking me for money then paying or is there a better way.

if you cancel even when your in your 30 day notice period they cut off the usage to the box office so thats not right for a start

  • I left sky in June 2008. I asked abount over payment and was told I was in credit of just over 18 quid. Not a huge amount of money, but belonged to me.

I was told to ring back to claim my money the day after I leave. I telephoned sky, was told the money will be in my account in seven days.

Seven days came and went, I telehpned again and this time told the refund will actually take 21 days.

21 days came and went, made several calls and complained to sky via email. Eventually I was paid £13.00, telephoned again, was told they had made a mistake and the fiver missing will be credited in 21 days.

Sky responds to my email dated 1st September, today!! telling me the £5.00 which belonged to me can not be credted to me, but will be credited to my account, which I can take advantage of when I rejoin.

I will now never go back to this money grabbing company, and have demanded a refund of my money.

Does anyone know if this is legal? If i had not paid them for a few months, i wonder how they would treat me, mmmmmmmmmmmm

I was thinking of writing to the CEO for sky, telling her/him my experiences
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
