Win a Harken Battcar mainsail system worth up to £1,300


Hoisting, lowering and reefing the mainsail can be among the most frustrating and potentially hazardous jobs on a yacht – so much so that sometimes the thought of it is enough to put people off going out in any wind at all.
Often you need to come head to wind to drop, the friction requires disproportionate effort and it is a struggle to manage the loose sail in the wind.
The Harken Battcar system uses ball-bearing cars and track to minimise effort on hoisting. It spaces the cars evenly along the luff for easy flaking of the sail in lazyjacks.
They also make fully battened sails an easily managed alternative for the cruising sailor.
The advantages of a fully battened mainsail are they’re quieter, lighter, and last longer than a soft sail, because they do not flog in the same way.
Entrants in this competition need to state their yacht size and age. Please note Harken Battcar Systems cannot be fitted to in-mast furling masts. The winner may be featured in a future issue.
