Waterproof coat/parka/thingy for cyclers!

Well, me again! My OH is a devoted cyclist and was thinking about investing into a proper waterproof jacket with the material that lets you breathe, the vents and the extra long bottom to cover his cute bum. We found some in halfords for 50 quid, and a very good one in a bike shop for 70 quid. Now, this is a hell of a lot of money considering that it could be buying him a suit!
Any bikers out there who could recommend anything?
Thx in advance!

I'd recommend the poncho especially if it's a mountainn bike we're talking about.Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
MFG,
£70 is around the starting price for this kind of thing to be honest, it's doing a fair bit of work. I own 2 jackets (waterproofs only) 1 was £30 and keeps me safe from rain, but is breathable as a plastic bag. The other was £60 (about 4 years ago) and is a little more breathable, but still wouldn't work for much longer than 2-4 miles of cycling.
You could keep an eye out in your local bike shops bargain bin, sometimes they need to shift older stuff....
The problem I find is that you just get too hot too quickly, spend too little and the brathability may not be up to scratch.
I'd stick to cycle specific jackets, at the price you're talking about (£50+) it should be as specific as possible to best match his cycling needs (rather than say a hiking jacket.).
A couple of decent sites to look for reviews...

I did hear VERY good reports about a new zealand brand called Ground Effect not too bad a price for what you get, but beware import duty.
NB, I took back a £40 halfords jacket as it let the rain straight through, it was a dirt monkey one (one of their own brands I believe).

tchibo had a great one, with longer length at back to cover bum, but need to buy it when one of their cycling weeks are on  . think the one i got my dad was about 30 pounds. have a look onine, as they do keep selling stuff after the particular week has passed, if they are still in stock..0
