Basic Bank Accounts

Hello Guys,

Can anyone help me with a question.

I am looking to open a new basic bank account and i'm having difficulty.

I had an appointment with HSBC in branch and we went through the various questions in order to open a new account. The advisor asked me if i had a bank account elsewhere and i said yes but i can't use it as i've been advised to open a new basic bank account so i can make an arrangement to pay back my overdraft.

The advisor said that she couldn't open an HSBC basic account if there was an existing bank account elsewhere.....

I said what do i do then... She said you need to pay off the other account before we can open this one??????

Can anyone tell me what the best bank to apply with would be? One that hopefully has a simple application process.

Thank you

I used co-op. Did it online, and it was quick and easy and they've been brilliant so have no problem recommending them.

  • Apparently Barclays do a basic bank account and I believe they are one of 2 (Co-op) who take bankrupts so it may be worth giving them a try.

    Good luck.
