Hi Guys,
Having never owned or purchased a digital camera before, I'm after advice from people who know about these things and can point me in the direction of a nice camera at an even nicer price.
I want to buy the camera as a Christmas present for my sister. In June she made me an uncle; I thought I'd get her a digital camera so she can record the little one's progress.
I'd looking for something with 5 Megapixels or more for around £100-£150, possibly more if the camera is a particularly good deal. Picture quality is of paramount importantance, but it should also be easy to use and download.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
TIA,
Machine

I been looking for smimilar camera myself for the wife slightly less price. I found a camera I may go for which is 4mp HERE but there is a 5mp version HERE
I have a couple of digital cameras already, and pleased with an now old Fuji camera. Its important to get one with optical zoom rather than digital and a good lense is also a imporant criteria.
Reviews are here

They reviewed a few on The Gadget Show on channel 5 recently. The Kodak Z700 scored very well and in fact it scored better than a higher spec camera it competed against.
The price is around £120-160, depending on where you source it.0 -

This Olympus looks the business. Have just bought one for my daughter - top priority was small size - plus decent spec. Here is a thread discussing it.

If you go through quidco + vouchers + the boots points offer you can get it for an effective £95.....cheapest elsewhere is about £150+. RRP is about £250.0 -
Also worth looking at the Samsung Digimax U-CA5 5mega pixel 3 x optical which is £99.99 in Boots before any points and any other vouchers/money back sites.0

Argos have several on special offer atm, e.g.

That one uses AA batteries, so it's economical to buy plenty of rechargeables, and you can get them in supermarkets etc. My own digital camera is a 6.3MP Fuji Finepix F610, which I'm very pleased with. I bought it in a previous Argos sale for £175, though I'm not sure what the current best price is.0 -
I have a Pentax s50i
I love it. I think there is a new and improved version - however I swear by mine. I did alot research before I chose it. Its tiny - the same size curiously strong mints tin from marks and spencer (random fact for you). You can play around with the colours including black and white. The battery life is good and also the pc software is easy to use too.

I prefer Fuji's (normally excellent battery life), but I doubt you'd have any problems with any of the suggestions already made. Worth budgeting for an extra storage card - the one supplied will be too small (regardless of which one you buy), and a set of rechargeable batteries+charger if it takes AA size.
Don't get too hung up by the number of pixels - you should get decent A4 (and excellent 8x6) from any 'name' brand over 3mpix.0
