  • I still haven't done my monthly review, will look at that this weekend. But the great news for my DF journey is that I was offered the internal post I applied for which will mean more money every month to put towards the debt. I can't quite work out how much extra, as I haven't got to grips with the tax yet, but it should be at least a couple of hundred.

I have another ally in my crusade to reign in Mr Harry's spending: it seems that nearly every online order these days needs the "verified by Visa" details and Mr Harry has forgotten his details and had to abandon a purchase halfway through. He was not impressed.

  • I have done my monthly review and am mainly happy that we are mainly on track.

There are some over budget costs:

Dentists (the root canal) £390 : not much I could do about this as hadn't saved beforehand. Have starting putting aside monthly amount for future dental treatment.
Groceries £86 over (the popping out for a loaf mid-week and buying extras seems to be the problem): will watch this carefully this month.

And I discovered that our bank has take nearly £400 out of our current account by mistake due to a cheque we have never written. It was on the statement with exactly the same chque number as another genuine cheque we did actually write for a much smaller amount.

In my pre-DF I would not even have noticed this glaring error, but now I am looking at staements properly I picked it up straight away. The bank says it will take up to a week to sort out: funny how they don't take a week to write letters and apply charges if the customer goes overdrawn by mistake  .
