Panasonic / Sony HDTV

I'm after getting hold of either the Panasonic 37" TH37PV500 & Cabinet stand,or the Sony 32" KDL-V32A12U and didn't know if anyone had had any bad experiences, or could recommend a good dealer/price?

Cheers-all.

I wouldn't buy either, the SHARP AQUOS range is the best LCD your money can buy. I looked into this really heavily last year and bought myself the 37" sharp aquos, and it's been superb when compared to my friends Panasonic and my cousins Philips!!

  • I was looking for the same Panasonic screen, and though the cheapest two places are Gultronics or TotalDigital (Birmingham) (£1850 ish including pedestal stand), they both have had quite bad feedback on Pricerunner - hence I decided to spend a little more for somewhat more comeback.

Apart from those two, the next price level from retailers with better feedback was around the £1970 price mark including delivery.

That said, John Lewis, Watford branch currently are price-matching Hi-Speck nearby - at £1849 for the screen (plus stand/wall bracket/pedestal as required) inc the 5 year warranty & free delivery. Total cost £2k inc del & 5 year warranty - which still leaves the sale of goods act open too.....

All the other John Lewis's I phoned are pricing the screen at £2195 - hence if another branch is closer, get them all to price-match the Watford branch!

As for the comments about Sharp being the best.... not always true - check the screens out at the time you are buying one. For a 37" hi-def screen, the Panasonic PV500 had fantastic reviews, and to my eyes was about as good as you get - I compared it with LCD's and other Plasma's. For 42" and 50", the new pioneer 6th generation screens are worth a look too. Always demo and be happy before you buy otherwise circa £2k is a lot to shell out on a whim!

John Lewis also have a 28-day policy on matching prices - hence any Christmas sale would be matched subject to their (pretty tight) price match policy.

    Happy hunting
