remortgage application cancelled

I have paid a financial advisor to arrange a remortgage . It was due for completion at the end of the month . I have received a letter from the building society today stating it has been canelled due to lack of action !
Tried to telephone f/a and his number is out of order . Building society and solicitors office both closed today .

I spoke to f/a three weeks ago and was told everything progressing fine . I am worried sick now about what I can do . Can it be reinstated at all ?

  • It sounds like the FA did a runner if his number is out of service. Can you visit their office? Or was it a telephone/internet only kinda setup?
If you paid by credit card you can claim the money back via the CC.

I suggest you contact the Building Society, most have a saturday telephone service.

This FA did they give you a Keyfeatures document? On there is their FSA number. go to www.fsa.gov.uk and check if they are still listed on their website. Plus check if it is the correct company. I have heard of rogues using the numbers of legit companies.

In these desperate times I would only do business with a broker on a face to face visit and get all of the documents due to you. Only pay fees via a CC, not cash. If they insist on cash they could be dodgy.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Agreed with the above. First port of call would be the BS - explain the situation, see if it can be re-instated.

Which broker was it you were using?

The f/a would not have done a runner as he is a friend . The building society state their mortgage dept is not open until Monday . Would it be possible for it to be reinstated .
  • Friend = a very broad definition or a very loose term for some people.
Visit your friend and ask what is going on. A true "friend" would keep their "friend" informed on the progress of their mortgage. And I would never charge my friends for the service.

As to your question: Maybe. It depends how far it has progressed. Have you given details of your income/payslips etc to your friend to forward to the lender?

The only way for you to find out is to speak to your BC.

Also you can do a search on the fsa website putting your friends name into the search to see if he is registered.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend to me.
  • Well? How did it go?

    Would be nice to know.
