in Credit cards
Hi,
I recently applied for the Capital One card which gave you 0% on purchases until November 2009, however I did not get that card, and they offered me a card which gave me interest free on purchases until May 2009.
They sent me the form to sign and return, but as I did not want the card with 0% only until May, I just shredded the form thinking that would be the end of my application as they would not take i any further action without the signed form.
Today I've received a Capital One Platinum card in the post, how can they send me one when I have not signed the credit agreement? Is this normal practice, its seems very odd to me.

cap 1 are renowned for doing that. sending you a card you wouldn't have applied for cos you failed thier criteria for the one you applied for. I just didnt activate my card and cut it up and sent it back registered post. The damage is done re-the search on your credit file but if you follow what I did, do check your credit file in a month or so to make sure they havn't added the card to your record or it will show as un-used credit, ie again hitting your credit score0

I'd not activate it, as previous, but if you opt to cut it up and send it back enclose a letter to cancel the account and ask for written confirmation that it is cancelled.
Personally I'd just send send a cancellation letter and tell them the card has been destroyed safely. This has been accepted when I've cancelled CC accounts in the past. You save a bit of money then and just use normal mail!0 -
Thanks for the replies, I'll cut it up and send them a letter asking them to cancel it,

Sounds like the form you shredded may have been an 'opt-out' form; i.e. "We'll send you this inferior card based on your initial application unless you inform us otherwise."Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -

EDIT: I've never had a Capital One card, but maybe you 'electronically' sign the agreement at the end of the online application, as you do with some other providers? That would mean a signature on a piece of paper wasn't required in order to open the account and send you the card.0
