MINT arrears

I'm behind on my MINT credit card payments, and I need to ring them tonight. I just managed to avoid a default a few weeks ago but they want some more money (which I don't have right now). What do people recommend? Should I just cut my losses (and the credit card) and offer a regular amount to pay off the balance? Is there any chance they would stop the charges while I do it?
Any advice welcome on this one.

If you cannot pay the minimum monthly payment but are managing to pay all your other financial commitments, then you should ring Mint and ask them to freeze the interest and explain you are having trouble paying. Ask them if they will reduce your monthly payment further till you are back on your feet.
Cut up the card so you are not tempted to spend further.
Don't forget, debt needs to be prioritised and credit cards are NOT priorities if you have other debt such as council tax, mortgage etc...
If you are having other financial problems as well, or if Mint get stroppy, don't get into an argument with them. Just visit your local CAB for free confdential help and ask them to deal with Mint on your behalf. (Don't forget to take ALL info relating to your income and outgoings with you).

Thanks. I ended up ringing them this morning (trains are a nightmare!). They were ok. I told them I'm going to cut up the card and propose a plan to bring my card back down under the limit. They kept talking about what their minimum acceptable monthly payment would be, but I just said I would look tonight and see what I can afford. Fingers crossed they'll freeze charges until I'm back under my limit again.Lightbulb moment - October 2005

Hi.
I got into arrears with Mint a couple of years ago, and luckily we arranged a payment plan between us. They also said they would freeze the interest on the amount for 6 mths - which they did and beyond! Even when I began paying the normal amount again, and started using the card, the interest was still 0%
This continued for another 10 months!
I may have been lucky, but they are usually helpful.0
