Had interview - didn't get job
stressers
I had an interview last week with Thorntons (chocs), didn't get it. I've just found out that the person who did get it used to work there (have no idea why they left in the 1st place). I'm upset because there were many people who applied for this job and I feel we all just wasted our time and bus fare (and I was stressed because I was nervous) for a job that we were never going to get. Because the job was advertised at the JobCentre, did the employer have to invite candidates for interviews despite having a pretty clear idea of who they were going to choose (they went to interviews in a week of the advert going up)?

just think by not working their you will not put on weight from eating all that chocolate.
soryy to hear that it was a waste of your time but lots of companys do this and its because they technically should advertise jobs publically

I thought this would be the case. Personally, I'd rather employer not ask me for an interview if they have no intention of employing me.
LOL at the choc comment. But that wouldn't have been an issue for me coz I'm one of those rare women who isn't choc-addicted. But my friend and sis are so they would've done really well with me working there. lol!0 -
Had it crossed your mind that they offered the person who had worked there before the job because they were the best at interview, for whatever reason?
Do you think any of the questions were unfair for those who hadn't worked there before?
I've interviewed internal candidates for jobs and given it to an external candidate, because they were the best person for the job!
Put it down to experience and keep applying!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
sorry to hear about the result.
hard though it is, you have to accept that sometimes, out of the group of people interviewed for the job, you weren't the one that ticked the most boxes for them.
Unfortunately the odds are loaded against jobseekers BUT you need to go to as many interviews as you can - they are all good practice...I lost track of the number I've had - some of them cost a fair few quid in petrol - and what's gone is done...I left with a feeling that it was a complete waste of time but each interview was a chance to say the harder things better if you see what I mean.
Good luckFor what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
At any job interview only one person gets the job, and they only have to have one tiny advantage over you, maybe not even that. I've been on interview panels where the panel was really undecided between two or more condidates.
Of course they look at the candidates CVs and order them in terms of who they like best, but the best person on paper isn't always the one they like best after they meet all the candidates.LindsayO

Thanked you by mistake. Your attitude towards this interview and the outcome stinks. I would suggest you failed to get the job because you were nervous and gave a crap interview. The fact that the person that got it used to work there does given them an advantage - but it was not an insurmountable hurdle for you to overcome.
Ask for feedback from the company, be mature enough to take it on board without sulking and learn from it. Then keep applying for jobs, one day you will be the successful candidate.0 -
Hi
I agree with Savvy_Sue. I've interviewed many people in my time - internal and external and often given the role to the external person - simply because I felt they were the right "fit" for role and had the right experience and asked the right questions.
Yep, ask for feedback and learn from it.

Don't worry mate, that is the part of the job search experience. I hope you will get the job you want.0

Sort of. I felt 1/2 the interview was about my media and theatre work than retail. I was answering the questions whilst desperately trying to think of a way to get back onto my time in retail and the job I'm applying for.0 -

Why, were you there? The fact that the person that got it used to work there does given them an advantage - but it was not an insurmountable hurdle for you to overcome.
No, it's not impossible but I don't think anyone but the employer can judge because they are they only ones who know what is on my CV and the other candidates and how we all did in the interview.Ask for feedback from the company, be mature enough to take it on board without sulking and learn from it. I am going to ask for feedback, as a jobseeker it would be a great help to hear feedback. I don't find it immature (and I'm not sulking) about being upset about not getting a job that someone desperately needs. I'm trying to make it as a writer which you get said no to quite a bit and you need to take (and I do) the feedback given on board.
I find your attitude "stinks" that you can pass judgement on me - someone you do not know.
Because you thanked me by mistake, I will thank you
Thanks to everyone with mature, straight answers/posts.0
