I thought a couple of the posts above were abusive. Maybe I'm just a fuddy-duddy?

Ah mr.b, old thing, try https://www.ladiesinleatherpaddleachapsbotty.com. Any news on Nelly??? Anyway. As most regulars know I am a silver back here. Now daft ole begger that I am said to Mrs. P back in the nineties, a loverly lady that has put up with a silly ole plonker like me," Well me dear, fink they learned there lesson about daft house prices, `spect they will now only go up in line with inflation from now on".

I saw what happened in the early 90`s, mates loosing jobs, businesses, and houses. Not only that but the breakdown of families. Awful! And here we are again but in a way it does seem a whole lot worse. This time the market has been totally screwed up because of the complicated gimmickery of mortgage lending, dumb !!! low IRs, insane lending. Now lets add a bunch of huge unsecured debt, newbie btl people and we end up with this mess.

I have a small business and like so many of my buddies in the same position, we are all moaning that turnover is down in most dramatic fashion. I know of some who are in a hairs breadth of loosing everything and believe me, these folks are in their 50`s.

I fear of times ahead because I think it`s broke and nobody out there knows how to fix it.

I suspect that there's nothing wrong with the economy that a good dose of inflation won't cure. Okay, that'll pauperise people on fixed incomes and rob people's savings, but it's a solution.

Tell it like it is Pobby. :T

And I'm going to give you a pass, as I guess you are too old now to learn and remember the difference between lose and loose.

There are too many people that will lose out from inflation for it to be allowed.

All the money invested in the UK (foreign money included) in treasury holdings and gilts and the like will fly out if there was any indication of Government pursuing a policy to wipe away the value of their holdings through inflation. In the blink of an eye... sold over computer screens around the world and moved to safer investments elsewhere.

The market would then punish the UK by rising the price of borrowing money, to make any policy of inflation hurt more than allowing deflation to play out.

If the UK tries to mess with sound money, it will be taught a crippling lesson, and the UK can not afford to anger the markets. It needs credit access.

Well maybe it will be a huge dose of inflation that might sort it out. I remember my Mum and Dad having their savings crushed by inflation back a long while ago. I guess I would be in a similar position. By the same token, interest rates soared so to a degree it was offset.

So maybe it is time to let inflation roar and stop fannying around with these dumb !!! low IRs. In my life time, IRs were always around the 8 to 9 per cent figure for years. It`s only in the last 10 years or so that they have been so very low. Hence, to a large degree, we have had such a mad increase in hpi.

And me old buddy dopester, the day I don`t let it rip is the day you can cart me off to the MSE " The misses has a blue rinse and I stay in my shed all day" forum. Lol!!!!
  • No, I want house prices to remain stable. I don't ever want house prices to boom again.

In fact, the advantage of prices continuing to fall a bit after a purchase would be making buying a bigger place easier.

I want a decent house/flat to live in without being financially ruined. You need to realise that houses are for shelter and not for making money. Perhaps non-money-making motivations are difficult for you to grasp?

Why don't you just continue to rent then? Hmmm?
