How do I tell my husband - Help!

We are currently £28000 in debt due to career changes - my husband is at college and I have retrained. I am now the sole wage earner (plus a miserly student grant). I have been spending too much, getting my new earnings out of proportion. But the thing is we have now decided to move to New Zealand when OH qualifies (late 2008/2009). We know we need to pay off our debts first and have money saved, but I will only just have repaid our debts in July 08 (done the snowball thing). OH also thinks we only owe £15000, not £28,000. I have told him we are going to talk money tonight, but I don't know how to start... help!

Best plan is to be honest. Tell him the truth, and show him how you are reducing the interest to the absolute minimum. I'm sure he will understand. It is better for him to have the full picture so that you can work together to solve it. Show him your budget and how that is going to pay your debts and cover your expenses.

I know its hard, but it must be done.

Welcome to MSE. Stick around here and I'm sure you'll receive some fantastic advice, the guys here are fab.

    Big hugs and good luck.

I wouldn't like to say how to approach the subject, but I know that when I told my boyfriend and my parents how much money I owed it was best done with all the facts and figures in front of me.

A problem shared is a problem halved.

i would have to agree with the 'just be honest' route. surely if you have to wait another yea to move it wouldn't be the end of the world :o

    good luck
