Just to warn everyone if they're visiting Newry that the city has now got parking meters and they're not the most visible as they're black. I got a £60 fine yesterday for not having a ticket and I had to get the traffic warden to show me where the bloomin parking meters were. He still gave me the ticket:mad:

Just to add to that.
The Quays shopping centre has engaged Euro Car Parks to run the FREE parking there. Having gotten a 'Parking Charge Notice' there, I went to Consumer Action Group and PePiPoo forums, and there is no legal basis for their 'fine' of £50. DO NOT PAY!!!
If you get one of these, please visit the forums above and look at the legal issues involved. The short version is that when you park, you enter a civil contract with the Quays centre. As this parking infringement is technically a breach of contract, you cannot be penalised, only claimed against for loss. As this is a free parking environment, there is no loss, and therefore no basis for any claim.
NB - Not all car parks operate under the same terms, so please check the legailities as above.
Pretani,
I sympathise, as I've had quite a few parking tickets. But how could you not see the meters? They've been up for a few weeks, and they're EVERYWHERE! Every 10 yards there seems to be another one. Wonder how long until they up the prices to cover the costs?0 -

I'm only in Newry 2 or 3 times a year and didn't expect meters to be in place. I switched off, had other things on my mind than parking meters:o0 -

On-street parking charges have just started in the other great city in NI - Lisburn. I pay my car tax - does this not actually pay for any parking anymore? It's ironic that Lisburn traders were complaining so much about John Lewis and the other stores as if it would ruin their business, whilst at the same time the parking meters were being installed. I know where I'll shop!
And relax...0
