Aldi Mini notebook - £279.99

Decent spec, small size, light.

IMHO, very good if you're on the move. Not got a top notch spec, but these are bulkier although a little more expensive. A little more expensive than the Eee pc but a better spec

  • Clone of the MSI Wind and Advent netbooks around at the mo. Good point is the 3 year warrenty though. Undecided as to whether to get one (already got an eeepc 701) or wait to see what comes around at Xmas time!
  • anyone know what size battery this little beauty has got ? 3 cell would be pretty useless, 6 cell would be great !
  • Saw this and v.tempted to use as spare/back-up/on the move etc.
Re battery - no idea what the cell is or its relevance - just wondered how long it runs for.
How much space does Office take up, as the 80GB hard drive seems very good compared to Asus etc.
Also any thoughts on the software i.e. is it compatible with Office docs from my main laptop?
Am I just being greedy and spending money that I could/should use for better use elsewhere?
    But it does look v.cool!
  • Ooh just seen the Acer Aspire One A150 at PC world - lovely blue colour to boot. Same spec but £20 more - but my old laptop was an Acer and their cust service was pants.
Any words of wisdom on this?

It looks like a 3 cell

    http://www.liliputing.com/2008/06/medion-akoya-mini-to-ship-with-3-cell.html

It looks like a 3 cell unit. Will the HD disk use as much power as a solid state disk?

    I just purchased a EEE-PC 900 (not 901) with 20Gssd linux

Now the akoya has the new Atom chip so even with a HDD it should be better than the EEE PC 901 for battery.

I wanted an SSD as I need a tougher unit.

What is the screen size on the akoya Vs the 901

People might want to check the other thread on the Maplin Netop

While it may seem good value take note of the following facts about the maplin unit

    1. It does not use a powerful processor it is a PDA type processor
    2. The software on the unit seems to be an non supported you cannot get applications for it paid or free
    3. Spares and replacement batteries seem non existent

Compare this with the Asus units (plenty of software choices applications and OS!) and the others all of which have quite powerful CPUs. The Aldi has a state of the are low power Intel chip.

    Just some thoughts.
