Descaling - Kettles, Dishwashers etc.

Citric Acid does just the same job as expensive descaling tablets and is available cheaply from Chemists.

Any sort of acid, in fact :D though it was said on Martin's TV programme that bicarbonate of soda works too :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Don't think so ;)

I'll add this to the existing descaling thread later to keep ideas together.

How much do you need to use please
  • Can I use it in a steam iron, too? And I'd like to know how much I need to use, too.

My instruction book says to use 'white vinegar' to descale my steamer.
I am living in Spain and as yet, have not found a shop that sells it.
Is there anything else that I could use to do the same job.
A creative mess is better than tidy idleness :D
  • Hi there  You can use any vinegar - malt will work just as well, but depending on what your steamer's made from it may stain.

We have an existing thread on alternative descalers, so I'll add your post to that ;)
