Friday 05/09/08. What small dfw things will you do today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Hi to any new posters and a big shout to the usual gang.:j

Had a message from Sophiesmum and as its not my place to say too much, just wanted to let you know she's not likely to be around for a few days as her brother has gone back into hospital.:(

Its really sad news and hope things get a little easier for them and he's not in too much pain. I know she would like us to keep the thread going and am sure reading our posts will help bring her a little smile.:(

  • oh dear. my thoughts are also with sophiesmum and her family...
she keeps my daily debt-free-ness on track and I massively appreciate that, but it seems so insignficant when family members are ill.

if anyone wants a little smile on this gloomy friday, you all won't be surprised to know that my OH has left the house with two sets of keys. again! meaning I'm stranded... packing admittedly on my day off but still... he just called and laughed and said i could have chilli from last night! for breakfast, cheers love.

spend free day for me then! til he gets back and i throw chilli at him :A
    what else...?
    • went through quidco for my best friend's 30th birthday present, tracking already
    • checked banking, nothing
    • redid my company car tax calculations (ordered yesterday :D)
    think that's everything
    keep well

    xx
  • So sorry to hear sophiesmum's latest news, sending the family huge hugs and my thoughts are with them.

It heightens my quest more, as my goal of being debt free is to enable me & hubby to move back close to my parents as my Mum's health is poor. At the moment we just can't afford to move.

    Today I have/will:

    Checked online banking
Checked my & hubby's pigsback (no clicks there!)
Brought breakfast & lunch into work
    Having storecupboard/freezer dinner
Unpacking our Asda home delivery when it gets here tonight. Online shopping now so we don't spend so much - it's really helped cut costs.
Can't make payment a day for a little while as money is tight and don't want to go overdrawn this month - no point getting into debt to pay debt off!

Have a great day everyone x

Hugs to Sophiesmum and her family..

I managed to get my sandwiches made for today and take some chicken out of the freezer for tea. I will have to buy milk but that is all.

It is difficult; most of us have never met each other but we feel the highs and lows of each others lives without really being able to help.

Debt free date 23rd march 2009 🥳Autism is my super power 🏳️🌈 🌈✨
  • I did this yesterday - couldn't find yesterdays thread. I cancelled my monthly contact lenses: £15 per month which would be a lot better off in my ISA. I realised it was just vanity that made me wear them and glasses are a lot better for my eyes!

Now just got to stop myself from sticking a really nice pair of rimless glasses on the credit card!
Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.
Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)
    Loan from Friend = £2000

    hi new2civvystreet!
I did something similar, but bought myself a box of dailies, so if i have a night out i can still wear lenses... a box of 30 has lasted me about 5 months :D that way i don't feel deprived!
