Saving My Bar-B-Que ?

Not sure exaclty where to post this on here, so apologies if it is in the wrong place ....
I've got one of those fairly large trolley style bar-b-ques, but sadly for a number of reasons, it has been left out in the rain (bless our Summer !) and now the large 'pan' area of it is a bright orange (rust) colour. It is not something I fancy cooking on again in its current state, but then again with current resources, I can't afford to get a new one.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how to 'save' my barbie for next Summer, by getting the rust off ?
Wire Brush ?
Brillo Pad ?
Oven Cleaner ?
Napalm ?
Or, should I just leave it and let the iron oxide add to the flavour of the food ?
And once the majority of the rusty gunky stuff is off, should I do anything to try to preserve it, like repainting it or something ? (of course with some high temp.paint)
Any offers, suggestions or advice welcomed !

I'd just use it.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I have found that rust is easily removed using a good spray of WD40 and a brillo pad.
Although they aren't about barbeques, these earlier threads may help:
