Spendthrift presenter Rebecca Wilcox goes on a mission to stem Britain's credit epidemic, with the news that three quarters of young people are in the red and helping to plunge the UK into one million pounds of debt every five minutes.

She soon realises that credit and store cards companies aren't going to help her, as she unravels the tactics of the billion pound industry. Determined to turn the tables, Rebecca becomes the bank's worst nightmare by exploring the real cost of living on credit.

I just watched it thinking where have I seen that woman before? She is Esther Ranzen's daughter. It was a bit silly in places but it also showed that there are a lot of people who have no idea about how credit cards work. One woman thought 29%APR was the discount !!!! scary!

  • I watched her and kept thinking she looked familiar. She's Esther Ranzen's daughter - obviously got her mother's flair for consumer issues.

I think the companies that refused to be filmed were totally out of order, esp the scottish woman with the pen and the paper at the ready to take contact details down who deserved to be ignored. In this country we have freedom of speech, it's not as if the presenter was causing a public disturbance. The police would have had no grounds for action.

The elders on the show set an example to us all, not afraid to roll their sleeves up to show others the way.

Thanks, Blackclouds - have just turned over to it. How scary for those poor students being so far in debt...?!?! Makes me glad that I was a student in the days of grants...I may have only been on the minimum grant available, but at least it was something - I think today's students are very brave...I think I would have thought twice about getting into debt for my degree (I felt bad for leaving university with 2 years worth of student loans - the 2nd and 3rd years of available student loans - total: just a little over £1500 in total...). Now, I realise how lucky I was...
